Description
For the most wonderful time of the year, They Both Die At The End is probably not one’s go to comfy, cozy book… However, I was uplifted by the human spirit and what we do for each other when you have nothing left to lose. I think there are pros and cons to knowing the day you are going to die. It reminds me of THE IMMORTALISTS by Chloe Benjamin, but those siblings knew the date in the future, not the day of. I would lean more towards Mateo’s journey as he was hesitant even to leave his family home to live out his last day. Combine that perspective with Rufus’ what’s life without a bit of risk attitude, and the result is an incredible bond of growth and love through the end.
The places they find themselves reminds me that really anything can lead to an unfortunate event. There are so many freak accidents out there that any day could be our last regardless of how healthy we are. It may be a bit morbid to think about each day may being your last, but you just never know. Having zero regrets at the end of the day sounds like a relief. I am always so focused on the future that this story forces me to be present and take in what is around you in the moment.
